As you probably already know – we’re the oldest Surf School in Cape Town, and we’ve never lost the stoke. It’s our commitment to top-quality surf lessons that has kept us going for all these years, as well as a focus on the basics (or as we like to call it – what really matters). Want to stand up on a board? We guarantee it (old-school, money-back guarantee, ‘cause that’s our style). Want your five year old to feel confident in the waves? Our basics are the best. Want to progress your already developed abilities? Gary’s is the place to do it.
We have a spot on Muizenberg beachfront that offers beginner to intermediate surf lessons and surfboard and wetsuit rentals. We also buy and sell equipment, and offer events and more advanced lessons and surf trips. So if you’re looking for more than a good-old-classic surfing lesson, just have a chat with us.
Established in 1989, we’re well aware of how to make the waves work for you. So come over, get geared up, and our experienced instructors will teach you the basics you need to know to get you up and riding on a wave. We’ll also teach you about safety in the water. - 2 HOUR PRIVATE FAMILY GROUP LESSON R950 pp
Inclusive of wetsuit, surfboard & your own instructor. (1 hour with your own instructor & 1 hour on your own to practice and have fun)
- 1 HOUR PRIVATE LESSON (1 on 1) R1200 pp
Inclusive of wetsuit, surfboard & the instructor. This lesson option is for those who want to have 1 on 1 coaching instead of a group lesson or for someone who can surf & wants to improve their skills.

Kids Surf Lessons
There’s nothing better than for a kid to get up on a board the first day they try, and the pride and joy that it brings them. And we know all the tricks in the game, so this is what we make happen.
Whether you’re bringing your kids down to Cape Town for vacation, need to keep them busy during school holidays, or just want to see huge smiles on their dials over the weekend, kids surfing lessons is the way to go.
Beginner Surf Lessons
First time on a board? Perfect – that’s our sweet spot. Our beginner sessions are designed to melt nerves, build rock‑solid fundamentals, and spark a lifelong love of surfing.
Who should book beginner surfing lessons:
- Total newcomers aged 5‑75
- Anyone who’s stood up once or twice but wants consistency
- Holiday‑makers ticking “learn to surf” off the bucket list
You’ll leave knowing how to choose a safe spot, paddle efficiently, pop up, ride straight, and, most importantly, love every salty second.
Intermediate Surf Lessons
Comfortable in the white‑water and ready for the green stuff? Our intermediate surfing lessons in Muizenberg bridge that gap, taking you from straight‑line cruising to confident carving.
We can’t promise you’ll surf like Gary by Friday, but we do promise measurable, stoke‑boosting progress.
